Georgetown Recommendations
-
Book a Capitol Tour
There isn't a standard Capitol Tour. You need to book through your local senator/congressman.
-
Get a Cupcake
Don't go to Georgetown Cupcakes—go to the far superior Baked and Wired and enjoy a stroll along the canal. Our favorite flavors are Tessita and Strawberry.
-
Go to Tudor Place
This is a small gem of a museum. It is a family home that belonged to Martha Washington's family. What makes it unique is that it stayed in the same family for years, which kept it preserved but offered interesting layers of history.
The house is open only by tour only, which happens on the hour.
-
Shop for Antiques
Christ Church Opportunity shop is like if your great aunt had a garage sale with all her collected heirlooms. Great deals on silver and other random things. Be sure to go upstairs.
-
Buy Some DC Swag
Looking for something cute but also fun to commemorate your trip to DC? Check out Boathouse Apparel, located on the canal off between 31st street and Thomas Jefferson
-
Grab a Drink at Martins
Terrell's favorite place in Georgetown for a drink is one of the oldest bars in DC. Fried green tomatoes and espresso martinis are some of our favorite things to order here.
-
Shop Local DC Makers
Need some souveniers to bring home? Check out DC Made which is across the street from Martins. They have great local goods, art, jewelry, et cetera
-
Enjoy the view at the Waterfront
If you want to spend some time outside, be sure to check out the park at the Georgetown Waterfront. You can rent canoes at Jack's Boat House or get a drink at Tony and Joe's.
-
Listen to Live Music at the Piano Bar
If you are looking for a fun late night spot, check out the Georgetown Piano bar on M street, a favorite of Terrell and her Darden Classmates. You can request songs by venmo and the pianists play everything.
-
Stroll through a Historic Garden
Georgetown is famous for its historic houses, especially Dumbarton Oaks. The gardens, designed by Beatrix Farrand, one of the first female landscape architects, are a highlight. You can visit the gardens from 2 pm to 5:30 pm each day for $11.
If you miss the entry time, check out the national park next door, Montrose Park which features a playground and tennis court.
-
Grab a Burger like in the Movies
The Tombs is another Georgetown Institution and inspired St Elmo's fire. While you probably won't get to hang out with Demi Moore or Rob Lowe, you can be guaranteed a great burger and a lively crowd of students and locals. If you want to keep living the magic of movies, check out Exorcist Stairs or Transformer Statues, which are around the corner.
-
Play Bocce or Go Bowling
Need a break from the DC June Weather? Check out Pinstripes and enjoy a game of bocce or bowling. They also have delicious food that is way above your typical bowling alley.
Hungry?
-
Baked and Wired. Its not just for cupcakes. Their coffee and breakfast Pastries are amazing.
Maman: Terrell obviously loves the rabbit- french decor but they are a great option for an easy-cooked breakfast
-
Dog Tag Bakery: a veteran-run bakery that teaches business skills in conjunction with Georgetown University. The coffee isn't bad either.
Bitty and Beau's: They might have the best-iced mocha in the city. This cafe is run entirely by people with developmental disabilities.
-
La Bonne Vache: A great neighborhood French spot just off M street. A simple menu that makes you feel like you are in Paris.
Chaia Tacos: A farm-to-table vegetarian taco place located off of the canal.
-
Das Ethiopian: If you have never had Ethiopian food, DC is the place to try it and Das is fabulous.
Liberte: Jack and Terrell's most frequented restaurant. Between the two of them, they had everything on the menu.
-
Thomas Sweet: Often shortened to "T-Sweets" is our neighborhood ice cream spot. You will often see a (quick-moving line) out the door.
-
Wingos: Check out their walk-up window (or their glover park location) for the best wings in the city
